Square nuts are so named for their square shape instead of hexagonal. They feature internal threading and are similar to standard hex head nuts. The square shape has a greater resistance to tightening, but once fastened, the larger surface area allows for a secure and stable hold. Square nuts are commonly used in woodworking as they provide flush and stable surfaces for attaching bolts and screws.
